Woodford Announces 2023 Kentucky Derby Bottle Design

In one of my favorite annual traditions, Woodford Reserve has announced the design of their 2023 commemorative Kentucky Derby bottle. This year is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Secretariat winning the 1973 Run for the Roses.

Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall says of this release:

“This is our most collectible Derby bottle yet, as Secretariat is perhaps the most revered and most loved racehorse in history. Even 50 years after his stunning achievement, Secretariat’s Triple Crown run is still considered one of the most iconic achievements in sports.

Like previous editions, the artwork is done by Kentucky native Jaime Corum. The title of this year's print is “Secretariat – Still the Greatest”. She says:

“I hope that my painting for this year’s Woodford Reserve Derby bottle, “Still The Greatest,” allows us to remember that moment of dreamlike perfection when Secretariat won the 1973 Kentucky Derby. I have been honored to paint Secretariat many times over the years, but this one is truly special to me, as it celebrates his 50th anniversary and is paired with Woodford Reserve. Who could imagine a more perfect pairing of two things that will never go out of style?

My Take 

This is my favorite release each year. I have 10 bottles in my collection so far (this started in 1999 so there are many I don't have) and am definitely looking forward to adding Secretariat. The portrait is stunning and it is the most famous racing horse of all time! What could be better?
