Maker's Mark Announces New 2022 Wood Finishing Release - BRT-01 & BRT-02

Maker's Mark has announced their fourth Wood Finishing Series with the release of BRT-01 & BRT-02. The BRT refers to their process of hand-barrel rotation (BRT). BRT-01was 'inspired' by the top of the warehouse, which has higher temperatures and BRT-02 was 'inspired' by the bottom, where it is much cooler. 

The tasting notes for the two selections are:

BRT-01 - Proof 109.4 (54.7% alcohol) - Uses American oak staves

Nose: Caramel and butterscotch mixed with a sweet spice

Taste: Bright, brown sugar and stone fruit

Finish: Warm and toasty, paired with hints of honey

BRT-02 - Proof 109.4 (54.7% alcohol) - Uses French oak staves

Nose: A seasoned oak nuttiness combined with molasses

Taste: Prevalent dark fruit and chocolate with baking spices

Finish: Long, viscous and round

No price information was included and this release is offered nationally. It is currently not listed on the OHLQ site as available in Ohio. There is slight hope it'll make it to Ohio as the 2020 Maker's Wood Finishing release was available here, but the 2021 release wasn't listed. 

My Take

Obviously, everything depends on price. The 2020 release was listed at $59.99 + tax in Ohio, which makes this a great deal. I love when the distilleries try new things and keep them at a reasonable price point. If you see this out and about, don't think twice about picking up a bottle.
