Diageo Owned George Dickel Announces Dickel Bourbon

Tennessee based George Dickel has announced a new spirit called Dickel Bourbon. This new release is made at Cascade Hollow Distillery, is a permanent addition to their lineup, and comes in aged 8 years.

Cascade Hollow Distilling Co.'s General Manager and Distiller, Nicole Austin says:
At Cascade Hollow, we have a lot of whiskies that exemplify the Tennessee Whiskey style, but we also have inventory that has a lot more in common with bourbon as we understand it in America. Dickel Bourbon is an opportunity for us to finally share this quality liquid with the rest of the world. I'm particularly proud that we have the kind of mature whisky inventory that can deliver an 8-year-old bourbon. As a style, bourbon is meant to be more approachable and balanced, and Dickel Bourbon is a great entry point into our whole portfolio.

Dickel Bourbon has a mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley. It carries an MSRP of $32.99 and comes in at 90 proof (45% alcohol). It will be available in select markets across the nation (no word on Ohio) and carries the following tasting notes:

Dickel Bourbon boasts sweet initial notes of vanilla leading into bright hints of cherry and orange before being balanced by almond toffee and oak.

My Take

In full transparency, I've never had any of the George Dickel products. Most are branded as Tennessee Whiskeys, even though some meet the criteria to be called bourbons. However, given the age statement and suggested price of this release, I think the Dickel Bourbon may be my gateway into giving the brand a try. Although it's not listed on the State website, I fully expect this release to make it to Ohio in the coming months.
