Woodford has announced their latest addition to their Master's Collection in the form of a new spirit called 'Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Chocolate Malted Rye Bourbon.' This is the second release in 2019 of the Master's Collection joining 2019 Batch Proof that was announced in May.
This newest release contains a mash bill made up of 70% corn, 15% chocolate malted rye, 15% distiller's malt and offers the following tasting notes:
Nose: Soft mocha, delicate caramel and roasted nut notes mingle with hints of cedar, soft oak and a touch of fruit.
Taste: Roasted rye grain, dry cocoa nibs and dark chocolate spice up a soft mocha character atop a layer of cherry fruit and toasted oak.
Finish: Long and chocolatey
No proof or suggested retail price was provided.
Personally, I love the Woodford Master's Collection. My most expensive bottle I've ever purchased was the 2017 version which was Cherry Wood Smoked Barley. Although price wasn't provided, I would expect this to run around $100 and have a proof in the 90-100 range (45-50% alcohol).
I also like the idea of bringing in chocolate malted rye. It's certainly a different combination, but given Woodford's track record, I fully expect them to pull it off. If I see this out and about, I'm buying immediately.
