Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) Announces Joseph Magnus Single Barrels - Available 9am on October 26

The Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) has announced a limited release of nine barrels of Joseph Magnus available exclusively to Ohio. The release will start on October 26th at 9am at select stores (list below) and will sell for $101.99 + tax for a 750ml bottle. The State Liquor Control worked with first time with Master Blender Nancy Fraley to choose the barrels for this release.

For this release, the State selected 22 liquor agencies to participate. Each agency will receive bottles from a specific barrel so if a certain profile piques your interest, be sure to double check which agencies will have those bottles. As with all single barrel releases, each barrel will have a unique taste profile and proof which is detailed below.

Our Take

It's incredibly confusing why the State ordered nine barrels of Joseph Magnus instead of some of the more popular releases (e.g. Elijah Craig (6), Old Forester (5), etc.). I did a mini-review of Joseph Magnus last December and found it heavy on cognac, but overall was solid. However, given the $100+ price point, this is one I'm skipping. I'd rather spend the money on multiple bottles at a lower price point.

If you end up going and grabbing a bottle, drop a note in the comments with your thoughts.
