Michter's Announces 2021 Release of US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon

Michter's has announced the September release of their 2021 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon. This is the first release of US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon in three years.

Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco says:
We first launched our groundbreaking US*1 Toasted Barrel Bourbon in 2014, and we followed up with releases in 2015 and 2018. While we continue to experience whiskey shortages at Michter's, we decided to use some of our bourbon stocks for this toasted offering so our loyal Michter's supporters could enjoy it.

To make this release, Michter's starts with fully matured barrels of its US*1 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon and transfers the whiskey into a second barrel made of 18-month air dried wood for additional aging. The second barrel has been toasted to precise specifications, but not charred.

This release comes in with an MSRP of $100 for a 750ml bottle. Per the press release photo, it comes with a 91.4 proof (45.7% alcohol). No tasting notes or age statement were provided.

My Take

It's nice to see US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon come back for the first time since 2018. Although I've never had it, it's nice to see new entries coming into the market. Lately, it seems toasted is the latest fad with this following Basil Hayden's Toast that was announced a few weeks ago. If you see this on the shelves, this could be a nice collectors bottle to break out at special occasions. For me, there are a lot of Michter's at cheaper price points that I'd look to before pulling the trigger on this release.
