Old Forester Announces Rye Single Barrel

Old Forester has announced the release of their newest spirit called Old Forester Rye Single Barrel. This spirit is unfiltered and bottled at barrel strength and the first new release of an Old Forester Rye since 2019.

Master Taster Zackie Zykan states:
The Old Forester Rye Single Barrel delivers on the same balanced and unique flavor profile of our 100 proof expression, only amplified and in unfiltered, raw form

Old Forester Rye Single Barrel carries an MSRP of $79.99 and will be available nationwide beginning June 1. For Ohio, the following is displayed on the State website:

"his is an exclusive OHLQ Barrel Selection product. Like the Ohio Liquor Facebook page or Twitter page to be the first to know when it will be released in Ohio.

Tasting Notes:

Nose: Dessert forward, creamy vanilla and lemon custard alongside rich caramel and dark brown sugar

Taste: Full-bodied with a base of ripe orchard fruit, subtle cinnamon stick, dried dill and hazelnut

Finish: Lengthy and spice driven, with peripheral black pepper and underpinnings of green anisette

My Take

I applaud Old Forester and parent company Brown Forman for continuing to bring out new variations of their rye recipe. I also like the single barrel. In theory, each bottle should be slightly different depending on the aging location of the barrel it came from. My big concern with this release is the lack of an age statement and a price of $80, especially when Russell's Reserve Single Barrel is priced at $54.99. For that, it'll be on the consumer on how much you love Old Forester.
