Michter's Announces 2021 US*1 Barrel Strength Rye

Michter's has announced the full national and international release of their 2021 edition of their Michter's Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey with availability starting in March.

Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco says:
Our team has been turning out some wonderful Kentucky style ryes over the years, and this 2021 release continues that trend.

This release is a single barrel product with the average proof of the barrels of 110.3 (55.15% alcohol). No age statement or mash bill were provided. The bottles carry a $100 MSRP (up from $75 in 2019).

The tasting notes are: Butterscotch and cinnamon with a hint of cherries on the nose; warming, rich, toasty vanilla and caramel up front with a dry oaky spice on the finish

My Take

For whatever reason, my reaction to this release is a solid 'meh'. I like the single barrel aspect and the price is high, but not unreasonable... I just don't have an urge that this is something overly different than other whiskey's available. If I knew the age statement or the mash bill, that could help tip the scales, but this seems like an average release to me that isn't unique enough to justify the $100 price tag unless you're a huge Michter's fan.
