Basil Hayden's Announces Annual 10 Year Bourbon

Basil Hayden's has announced that their 10 year bourbon will be hitting shelves again in limited quantities.

Jon Marks, Brand Director for Small Batch Whiskey at Beam Suntory says:

Basil Hayden's 10 Year Bourbon is a truly unique expression that offers the perfect blend of our whiskey's trademark spice, balanced with a caramel sweetness and oak as a result of the extra aging in American Oak Barrels"This annual release offers something special for our fans to share with family and friends as they gather in a socially safe way.

The Basil Hayden's 10 Year comes in at 80 proof (40% alcohol) and has an MSRP of $69.99 for a 750 ml bottle. The product is scheduled to roll out nationwide. The tasting notes are:

Nose: Big oak, hints of char, vanilla and rye
Taste: Oak balanced by caramel sweetness and rye spice
Finish: Lightly smoky with a hint of char

My Take

The good news is that this release will be hitting Ohio... What I find interesting is that the price of this release went up $10 a bottle from last year... I'm not sure what justified a 17% price increase in the middle of a global pandemic when the tasting notes are exactly the same...

The increase in price certainly makes this less appealing as does the 80 proof. At that price point, I'm expecting something more robust in terms of proof, even for a 10 year. If I see this on the shelf, I'm probably going to pass.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments section.
