Angel's Envy Announces Limited Edition Bourbon Finished In Tawny Port Wine Barrels

Angel's Envy has announced the release of 5400 bottles of a new bourbon that is made from their 10 year bourbon that is aged an additional 10 months in Tawny Port Wine Barrels. This is Angel's Envy's oldest bourbon ever released.

Wes Henderson, Angel's Envy Chief Innovation Officer and Co-founder says
"My dad always used to say 'taste is never an accident,' and when we first started dreaming up what Angel's Envy could be, we knew we wanted to explore and push the boundaries of bourbon. Our tawny port finish embodies exactly that. When you combine the mellow finish from the tawny port barrels with the profile of our 10-year-old bourbon, you get a richness and complexity that I think our fans will really enjoy."
The bottles will be available beginning on February 8 at select retailers in KY, CA, FL, IL, NY and TN, as well as at the Angel's Envy distillery in Louisville. Additionally, Angel's Envy 500 Main members ( can purchase a bottle ahead of the general public for pickup at the Louisville distillery. Suggested MSRP for a 750ml bottle is $249.99.

The tasting notes for this release are:

Nose: Dry fruit and oak
Taste: Black pepper, toasted nuts, clove and delicate cinnamon spice, with a hint of dried apricot
Finish: Light and lingering, reminiscent of dried fruit dipped in dark chocolate

My Take

This is an interesting release. I enjoy the Basil Hayden's Dark Rye (75.5/100) that is also finished in port barrels so I am very curious to see how a bourbon aged for 10 years and then put in the port barrel would taste. Unfortunately, with this being a very limited release and with no allocation to Ohio, I'll probably never get the chance. If you see this on your travels or pick up a bottle, drop a note in the comments with your thoughts.
