Ohio Division of Liquor Control Announces Four Selections from Maker's Mark - Available April 5

The Ohio Division of Liquor Control has announced the availability of four selections from Maker’s Mark beginning at 9am on Friday, April 5th at selected agencies across the state. The four selections are ‘The Great 88 Select’, ‘Capital City Select’, ‘Queen City Select’, and ‘North Coast Select’.
The selections were hand-picked for Ohio by the Maker’s Mark Private Select Team, led by Scott Mooney (Program Manager). All selections began as Maker’s Mark Cask Strength aged in charred American oak barrels. The proof on all the bottles will vary based on which barrel they came from and will retail for $65.99 + tax.

The selections are:

The Great 88 Select – A reference to the 88 counties that make up Ohio.
Four Staves: Roasted French Mocha (char, maple, cacao)
Six Staves: Toasted French Spice (smoke, coumarin, spice)

Capital City Select – A reference to the great city of Columbus
Five Staves: Baked American Pure 2 (sweet brown vanilla, caramel, brown spice)
Three Staves: Maker’s 46 (dried fruit, vanilla, spice)
One Stave: Roasted French Mocha (char, maple, cacao)
One Stave: Toasted French Spice (smoke, coumarin, spice)

Queen City Select – A reference to the nickname for Cincinnati
Two Staves: Baked American Pure 2 (sweet brown vanilla, caramel, brown spice)
Three Staves: Seared French Cuvee (oaky, caramel, roasted/toasted)
Four Staves: Maker’s 46 (dried fruit, vanilla, spice)
One Stave: Roasted French Mocha (char, maple, cacao)

North Coast Select – A reference to the cities on the north coast, including Cleveland and Sandusky
Ten Staves: Maker’s 46 (dried fruit, vanilla, spice)

Our Take

This is one of the rare private selections where we feel the juice is worth the squeeze. Each location has a good amount of bottles so you stand a decent chance of getting one and the selections are unique and intriguing. We are especially interested in the Baked American Pure 2 based on the tasting profile. One improvement we would have liked to have seen is to vary the availability of the bottles. It’s a shame that people up north are limited to the ‘North Coast Select’, however, this is a huge improvement on how things have been going with The Ohio Division of Liquor Control so we want to acknowledge them for that. There are a lot of bottles and multiple selections and there are enough where people will actually stand a good chance of getting one.
