Goodwood Brewing Introduces 12 Year Small Batch Spirit

Goodwood Brewing, who is most well known for their Louisville Lager, Walnut Brown Ale, and Bourbon Barrel Stout beers, have introduced a new small batch 12 year bourbon called Goodwood Stout Barrel Finish.

This new spirit comes from 12 year sourced American charred white oak barrels then finished in Goodwood Bourbon Stout barrels to give the bourbon a unique flavor profile. Goodwood Brewing states that:
The stout beer-barrel aging lends malt sweetness and a cocoa character to the robust whiskey tones of vanilla and sweet caramel
In a statement, Goodwood CEO Ted Mitzlaff says:
“Bourbon has always been an integral part of the Goodwood product line with our barrel aged program. We are located in the heart of bourbon Country and understand the tremendous impact barrel finishing has on creating superior taste profiles. We are extremely excited to launch our first of many spirit expressions and believe the consumer will enjoy our Stout Bourbon as much as we do.”
There was a rumor that this bourbon was sourced from the Barton 1792 Distillery Warehouse #30 that collapsed in June of 2018 and impacted nearly 10,000 barrels. However, parent company of the warehouse Sazerac quickly denied this was the case and sent a cease and desist letter demanding that Goodwood permanently discontinue all claims, issue a public clarification, and provide a detailed accounting of where and how they purchased the bourbon. It all seems to be a misunderstanding by the broker who gave incorrect information.

The new spirit is pure Kentucky Bourbon, has a mash bill of  74% Corn, 18% Rye, 8% Malted Barley. It registers at 90 proof with a suggested retail price of $145. Product release is set for early February in select retail stores  throughout the Louisville and Lexington markets. It will be available in the rest of Kentucky in the near future. Goodwood Spirits can also be purchased at the Goodwood Brewing Taproom, in Louisville, KY.

This is a limited edition release, but Goodwood will be doing small batch spirits saying:
"When we find a good product! We want to keep it very high quality."
Will we ever see this on the shelves in Ohio? Goodwood says they are working with their current list of beer distributors to make this available outside of Kentucky. We've got our fingers crossed for Ohio because it sounds unique and the backstory is already intriguing!
