Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) Announces 3 Barrels of Old Forester Single Barrel 100 Proof and Barrel Proof

The Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) has announced limited availability of Old Forester Single Barrel 100 Proof and Barrel Proof bottles beginning this week.

Unlike previous releases, the State is not announcing the locations where this will be available ahead of time... presumably to avoid gatherings and crowds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to track down a bottle, you'll need to head to this page for Old Forester Single Barrel 100 Proof and this page for Barrel Proof to see if any stores in your area were allocated any bottles.

The prices are $49.99 for the Single Barrel 100 and $79.99 for the Barrel Proof.

The tasting notes are:

Single Barrel 100

Barrel #5286 - Oak and caramel on the nose, with dark cherry and pepper notes and a mild finish.

Barrel #5281 - Rich vanilla and caramel on the nose, with cedar and apple notes and a long finish.

Barrel #5300 - Brown sugar and maple on the nose, with a sweet caramel palate and a mild finish.

Barrel Proof

Barrel #5134 (135.8 PROOF) - Leather, oak, and pepper on the nose, followed by maple and dark cherry notes with a long finish.

Barrel #5536 (132.7 PROOF) - Sweeter nose closer to brown sugar; cherry and spice on the palate, with a long finish.

Barrel #5291 (132.2 PROOF) - Peppery spice on the nose, with oak and vanilla notes and a mild finish.

My Take

Not much to say on this one... for me, there are so many Old Forester varieties available already that I haven't tried... additionally, I reviewed the Old Forester 100 and it scored a 60/100, which isn't good. Just for those two reasons, this is a release I'm not going to waste any time or effort on.
