Holladay Distillery Introduces Whicked Pickle

Missouri based distillery Halladay has announced a new spirit called Whicked Pickle hoping to capitalize on the pickle-back shot craze. For those unfamiliar (which should be anyone over the age of 30), a pickle-back shot is traditionally a shot of whisky chased by a shot of pickle brine.

Patrick Fee, the company's Vice President of Marketing says of this new release:
This product went from concept to market in a matter of months. When the pandemic caused dips in other parts of our business, it allowed us to have some fun with product development.

The initial release was limited to Missouri, Kansas, and Wisconsin. However, with the initial success, they have added additional states with a full nationwide rollout scheduled for 2021.

Whicked Pickle comes in at 70 proof (35% alcohol). No price or tasting notes were provided.... however, I'm guessing there is a taste and finish of pickle juice.

My Take

Well... of all the new whiskey's I've written about... this is by far the dumbest one. Props to Holladay Distillery for trying to make a quick buck on one of the most recent trends, but I think this is a bad idea because the whole point of the pickle back shot is to have the chaser of pickle brine. If you use this as a shot and follow with the pickle brine, you're basically chasing pickle with pickle... Anyway, this is a hard pass for me.

What do you think? Drop a note in the comments.
