Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) Announces Woodford Bottles - Available Week of July 27

The Ohio Division of Liquor Control (OHLQ) has announced the availability of selected bottles of Woodford Reserve and Woodford Double Oaked exclusive to Ohio beginning the week of July 27th.

Unlike previous releases, the State is not announcing the locations where this will be available ahead of time to avoid gatherings and crowds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to track down a bottle, you'll need to head to the OHLQ Product Locator next week and see if any stores in your area were allocated any bottles.

The prices per bottle are $49.99 plus tax for the Woodford Reserve and $54.99 plus tax for the Woodford Double Oaked. Tasting notes were not provided.

My Take

Same as the recent release of Old Forester unique to Ohio.... I'd prefer this was driven by supply and demand so we wouldn't need to rely on the state to get bottles unique to Ohio. I do applaud the state for not announcing the locations to avoid crowds. It makes it a lot higher probably that the average consumer can run into one of the unique releases.

In terms of the release... it wasn't announced how many barrels or bottles are available, but I would recommend picking up the Double Oaked at that price. It's only 0.04 cents more than a regular bottle of Double Oaked and you get a product that is unique and rare. It'd be a fun exercise to buy a State bottle and a regular bottle and see if you notice a difference. For me, $49.99 + tax for the regular Woodford is probably a bit high (regular is $34.99 for a 750ml or $41.99 for a liter).
