Angel's Envy Announces 2019 Cask Strength Bourbon Finished In Port Barrels

Angel's Envy has announced the release of 14,000 bottles of their 2019 Cask Strength Bourbon Finished In Port Barrels that hit select markets on November 1.

Wes Henderson, Chief Innovation Officer and Co-founder of Angel's Envy states:
Our annual ANGEL'S ENVY Cask Strength Bourbon release started in 2012 with my father Lincoln, my son Kyle and me, and it has gone on to become a tradition in our family. Each year's hand-selected Cask Strength Bourbon is a little bit different, and we're excited for our fans, who we consider part of our own family, to experience this year's release and take part in this tradition with us for the eighth year.
This release is bottled at cask strength (not watered down) with a proof of 122.4 (61.2% alcohol). It has an MSRP of $199.99 for a 750ml bottle and is scheduled to be released in Ohio. The tasting notes are:

Nose: Notes of honeyed apple, peach, apricot and overripe banana are present, along with black tea, toasted oak with a slight char and faint floral notes.
Taste: Notes of honey, apple, butterscotch, toffee and mellow vanilla, as well as hints of oak and toast.
Finish: Medium-length and includes tannin notes trailing into black tea

My Take

I haven't had enough of any of the regular Angel's Envy to recommend or not recommend this release. What I like about this release is that even though it's limited, there are still 14,000 bottles available so if someone really wants this, there should be enough supply where they could track down a bottle. I also appreciate the wide release. In all, there are 26 states plus domestic military that will get allocation. Where I have concerns is that $199.99 is a lot to spend on a single bottle, especially when there are many cheaper bottles of Angel's Envy that I haven't tried. If you're an Angel's Envy fan, I recommend giving this a go. If you're like me, and don't have a ton of experience with the brand, then I'd recommend sitting this release out.
