Four Roses Announces 2019 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon

Four Roses has announced the release of their 2019 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon. This new bourbon is a mix of four of their recipes selected by Master Distiller Brent Elliott to create this release.

The four bourbons that make up this release are a 21-year-old Bourbon made from Four Roses OBSV recipe. A 15-year-old OESK, 15-year-old OESV, and an 11-year-old OESV.

Since those letters don't make sense to anyone, I'll translate... The 'O' in each represents that it was distilled at the Four Roses Distillery. The second letter in three of the bourbons is 'E', this denotes the mash bill. The Four Roses 'E' mashbill is 75% corn, 20% rye, and 5% barley. The 'B' mashbill is 60% corn, 35% rye, and 5% barley. The third letter is the type of distillation. These were all distilled as straight whiskey so they get the 'S'. The last letter is the yeast strain. The 'V' is delicate fruit and the 'K' is a slight spice.

The tasting notes for the new bourbon are:

Nose: Oak, honey, red raspberries and vanilla.
Taste: Bright, sweet fruits, cinnamon, baking spices, and mellow barrel flavors.
Finish: Rich, soft and lasting finish.

The 2019 Limited Edition Small Batch Bourbon will be available in limited quantities at the Four Roses Distillery and Warehouse & Bottling Facility Visitor Centers on Saturday, September 21 beginning at 9 a.m. The Limited Edition Small Batch will roll out to additional retailers in the weeks following. No pricing information was provided.

Our Take

With the age statement of the bourbons used to mix this limited edition small batch, I'm expecting this to cost a good amount. Unfortunately, no price information was provided. Without that, it's hard to determine if this is worth buying.

Aside from that, this sounds like a bourbon I'd love to try. The age statements are all over 11 years and Four Roses makes great bourbons.

If you see this on the shelves, drop a note in the comments with your thoughts.
