Michter's To Introduce 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye in July

Michter's has announced the release of a new 10 Year Rye coming in July. This new spirit is the first new release under Master Distiller Dan McKee. Michter's has also announced that they continue to experience whiskey shortages so it is anticipated that this will be the only bottling of the distiller's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye this year.

Master Distiller Dan McKee states:
"In my years at Michter's, I've seen how incredibly focused our previous Master Distillers Pam Heilmann and Willie Pratt have been on waiting to release whiskey till it was just right. Working with our Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson, I will continue that tradition of only releasing whiskey that makes us extremely proud."
This new spirit comes with a whopping $160 MSRP for a 750ml bottle (however, it's showing up at $132.99 on the state of Ohio Division of Liquor site). The mash bill, like all Michter's products is proprietary, however, we do know it used new American white oak barrels. It registers at 92.8 proof (46.4% alcohol) and is being released nationwide.

The tasting notes are deep notes of vanilla and toffee, toasted almonds and cinnamon with an ample dose of crushed pepper and a hint of orange citrus.

Our Take

While I haven't reviewed any Michter's spirits yet, they are a solid brand and one of my favorites. I especially appreciate their standard rye product, which is why I was super excited to hear about a 10 year single barrel. However, the $160 price has me a little concerned that there may be better single barrel rye's available. If you're a huge Michter's fan and want to splurge, this could be the spirit for you. For everyone else, I'd recommend sticking with the regular Michter's Rye for around $37 until they can get their whiskey shortages under control.

If you see this in the wild or give it a taste, drop a comment below with your thoughts.
