Beam Suntory (Makers of Jim Beam) Announces New Legent Brand

Beam Suntory has announced the creation of the Legent brand that "brings together the best of the East and West."

In a statement that made Xzibit smile, Beam Suntory explained the process as:
This new brand starts as a Kentucky Straight Bourbon with the Beam classic family recipe and is aged in wine and sherry casks before being blended with more Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

This new blend is distilled by Fred Noe, seventh-generation Master Distiller of Jim Beam and then has been blended by Shinji Fukuyo, fifth-ever Chief Blender of Suntory, the founding house of Japanese whisky.

Suntory CEO, Takeshi Niinami says:
"Legent is the perfect articulation of the amazing things that can be achieved when two great cultures come together as one, sharing a unified vision to bring true innovation and best-in-class spirits to the world. This bourbon honors Fred and the Beam family's proud traditions while showcasing Shinji's award-winning blending capabilities. Quite simply, it's a bourbon no one else could create."
Legent is available in a 750mL bottle at 94 proof (47% abv) in select markets throughout the United States for a suggested retail price of $34.99. No word on if Ohio is a select market, but given the availability of other Jim Beam products, we expect to see this on the shelves soon. We're cautiously optimistic as Beam was our gateway bourbon, but Suntory was not our jam when we reviewed it. Be sure to stay tuned to for future reviews and news concerning Legent.
