Friday Bourbon & Whiskey Quick Hits - February 22

Here is a collection of some of the bourbon and whiskey news that weren't big enough for their own stories, but still interesting to the bourbon and whiskey community. Let's get to it!

1. For the Game of Thrones lover... Diago and HBO announce the release of a limited-edition collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies celebrating Game of Thrones.

The collection features eight scotch whiskies, each paired with one of the Houses of Westeros, as well as the Night’s Watch, giving fans an authentic taste of the Seven Kingdoms and beyond. The available editions are:

  • Game of Thrones House Stark – Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost
  • Game of Thrones House Tully – Singleton of Glendullan Select
  • Game of Thrones House Targaryen – Cardhu Gold Reserve
  • Game of Thrones House Lannister – Lagavulin 9 Year Old
  • Game of Thrones The Night’s Watch – Oban Bay Reserve
  • Game of Thrones House Greyjoy – Talisker Select Reserve
  • Game of Thrones House Baratheon – Royal Lochnagar 12 Year Old
  • Game of Thrones House Tyrell – Clynelish Reserve

2. Joseph Magnus Announces Changes - Washington DC based Joseph Magnus announced structural changes as well as revealed plans to temporarily close and refurbish its Washington, D.C. cocktail room.

In terms of the structural changes, Ali Anderson has been promoted to general manager of Magnus. Nancy Fraley will continue to guide the Magnus production team and create several special releases for 2019. And finally, Thom Spelde joins Magnus as vice president of production.

Ali Anderson states:
"We are excited by the opportunity to share the Magnus experience with customers in twenty-eight states, We will continue to deliver remarkable spirits to connoisseurs in D.C. and across the country."

3. Valentine Distilling Co. Releases Mayor Pingree Red Label Bourbon - Valentine Distilling has announced the release of Mayor Pingree Red Label Bourbon. For those unfamiliar (us included), Valentine is a distillery out of Michigan. The original Mayor Pingree was named after Hazen S. Pingree, who was mayor of Detroit from 1890-1897.

This release produced 3,900 bottles, and the distribution of this release encompasses nine states including Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, New York, Maryland, Washington D.C., Connecticut, Delaware, and New Jersey. No dice for Ohio. The spirit is non-chill filtered and bottled at 94 proof. No word on price.
