Friday Bourbon & Whiskey Quick Hits - February 15

Here is a collection of some of the bourbon and whiskey news that weren't big enough for their own stories, but still interesting to the bourbon and whiskey community... including everyone's favorite...... Financial Reports!

1. For the ice cream lover... Häagen-Dazs Announces New Spirits Collection Hitting Shelves Across the US... including.... Bourbon Vanilla Bean Truffle and Bourbon Praline Pecan! They come in a 14oz carton at a suggested retail of $5.29... Products contain less than 0.5% alcohol so even our contributors who are on a bourbon hiatus can partake! (source)

2. Castle Brands (Jefferson's bourbons) Announces Fiscal 2019 Third Quarter Results (source). Some of the highlights include:
  • Jefferson's with a 20.7% increase in case sales for the first nine months of fiscal 2019 over the comparable prior-year period.
  • Castle Brands purchased an additional $11.5 million of bourbon in the nine-month period to support the continued growth of Jefferson's. The source is unknown.
  • John Glover, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer says:
"Jefferson's is a key brand for us and we are very excited about our current bourbon inventories. The combination of our new fill programs and opportunistic purchases of aged whiskey resulted in our having just over 30,000 barrels at the end of the third quarter. At approximately 25 cases (9L) per barrel, this would equate to approximately 750,000 cases of finished products."
  •  Overall, the Company had net sales of $22.5 million, a 6.4% decrease from net sales of $24.1 million in the comparable prior-year period. Net loss was ($2.1) million in the third quarter of fiscal 2019 compared to net income of $0.7 million in the comparable prior-year period

3. Bently Heritage Estate Distillery in Minden, Colorado has opened their tasting room to the public (source). Tours can be booked at bentlyheritage.com. The cost of a tour is $20 with tastings are $10. At the current time, there is no bourbon or whiskey as Bently Heritage whiskies are currently aging in barrels and will be available in the future.

4. Crown Royal Introduces Crown Royal Peach (Source) - Crown Royal has announced the limited edition Peach Flavored Whisky that brings in the flavor of sweet Georgia peaches.... Having spent my formative years growing up in the south, I can personally attest that there is no peach in the world as good as a Georgia peach. The whisky comes in at 70 proof (35% alc/vol) and has an msrp of $24.99 for a 750ml bottle.

This is something we're really looking forward to as a nice summer mixer... Crown Royal recommends Iced Tea, but we're thinking an Arnold Palmer. We fully expect this to be available in Ohio.
