Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery to Open on January 31st, 2019

Michter's has announced that their Fort Nelson Distillery will open on Thursday, January 31 with public tours to begin on Saturday, February 2. This building was purchased by Michter's in 2012 and has undergone an extensive restoration.
"The Fort Nelson building is an impressive example of cast iron and stone construction with Romanesque windows and a striking corner turret rising above its neighbors. First built in 1890, the building was in such disrepair when purchased.... that it featured a collapsed staircase and no floors."
Included in the site will be tours, tastings, and a gift shop. Whiskey production will be conducted on the pot still and cypress wood fermenter system from Michter's Pennsylvania Distillery.

The second floor will feature The Bar at Fort Nelson that will feature classic cocktails as well as:
"serve as a resource for the local Kentuckiana bar community and host educational seminars from leading industry professionals through its Fort Nelson Fellows program"
The Bar will also feature custom glassware from U.K. producer John Jenkins and an advanced ice program with machines from top global equipment purveyors. That sounds like that could be worth the trip alone!

In addition to Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery, the company has Michter's Shively Distillery in Louisville as well as its 145-acre farm and operations in Springfield, Kentucky. If you are around Louisville and would like to check it out for yourself, the address is:
